B&M Exeter Station

The old Boston & Maine, Exeter Station is right next to the new platform and now houses a convenience store and a cafe, and there are several restaurants on the other side of the station. There is talk of a new station being built and using the old station in the interim.

The station has a spartan look to it because it was built to serve primarily freight service for the local industry of the time, 1891, and passenger service was secondary, thus the use of a secondary freight building outside the main building. Notice also the different thicknesses of the stones and the two round towers one at each end of the platform side of the building. Rail industries would have included shoe manufacturing and other leather goods.
