Amtrak is the National Passenger Rail System and operates 29 routes nationwide.

The Downeaster

The route that comes north out of Boston is the Downeaster. It leaves out of Boston's North Station for Woburn, and Haverhill, MA, Exeter, Durham (Univirsity of NH) and Dover, NH and Wells, Saco, Portland, Freeport, and Brunswick, ME. In 2012 the ridership was above 40,000 for every month except January.
