The Railroad is run to help support a museum that is housed in a new building near 19th century assembly building of the Portland Company, a manufacturer of machinery from the 1840s to the 1980s, mostly locomotives, some in two foot gauge, and marine engines. This facility is now up for sale and was not considered suitable for housing the collection, so a new site has been chosen just down the right of way.

The museum's collection, which is the largest 2foot collection in the world, includes the "Rangley" parlor car, the "Pondicherry" and "Mount Pleasant" coaches, SR&RL Rail-bus 4, Mr. Oris Vose's Inspection Car, Monson RR engines 3 & 4, Bridgeton and Harrison engines 7 & 8, and a host of cars to operate with.
